Damn it's that time AGAIN?
another year closer to 30.
S. and I are goin down to tha big citee o boston!
Lord I miss city living. The stores, the theater, the clubs... and for some reason Eva Gabor's voice is ringing in my head.
I'm very excited about my mini vacation. It's been some time since I've really gotten out of Portland for more than a day trip... We'll be going shopping, going to a show and hopefully spending Saturday with the fishes. The aquarium.. I haven't been there in some time... The last time I was there... well... let's just say I'd rather not talk about it... Here's to hoping that karma got that one in the ass!
So I was talking to a friend of mine and she's quite into star charts and the like, so I figured I'd give it a whirl and see what this stuff was about... She said that Saturn should be in it's descent at this point or within the next couple of years for me... Bringing a great deal of change to my life... I don't know how much stock I hold in it, but hell... How does a little bit of introspection hurt right?
Here's my outcome...
Rising Sign is in 22 Degrees Capricorn
You are practical and reserved but very ambitious. An achiever and a hard worker, you respect success. Older looking and very serious as a youth, things lighten up and you relax more as you mature. You have a serious view of the world as being a difficult place to be in. Very envious of those who seem to have an easier life than you have, relaxation and play do not come easily. It is important that you had abundant parental support as a child so that you do not feel lonely and isolated as an adult. Generally, you have a good, earthy sense of humor that can carry you through when times really do get tough. You are purposeful, self-willed, industrious, realistic and responsible.
Sun is in 08 Degrees Taurus.
You are known for being patient, slow moving and careful -- you love to prolong and savor enjoyable times. You appreciate and need comfort, ease and warm surroundings. Be careful of a tendency to become placid and self-satisfied and to overeat (especially sweets). You require strenuous situations in order to grow and mature properly, even though you try to avoid them. Affectionate, even-tempered and slow to anger -- when you do become emotionally upset, you are also slow to forgive and time must pass before your calm returns. You demand real results from any situation -- abstractions are very difficult for you to comprehend. Very artistic, your hands love to mold and shape things. You portray an earthy, physical sexiness that others find quite seductive.
Moon is in 00 Degrees Aquarius.
Very freedom-oriented, you must always be able to do what you wish, no matter what. You become stubborn and recalcitrant when others try to force you into a mold. You are a true democrat -- you are not a follower, but you enjoy being with those who are like-minded. You appreciate emotional self-control -- you practice it yourself and you look for it in others. You solve problems, including emotional ones, with your brains and intellect, not your feelings. Try to be tolerant of those who have powerful and obvious emotional responses -- not everyone is as objective, cool, dispassionate and detached as you are.
Mercury is in 15 Degrees Aries.
Very quick-witted, you are known for being an independent thinker. You love to debate and argue, and are excellent at repartee and battles of wits. At times, however, you act too fast on hastily formed opinions and thus waste a lot of energy defending your rash and sometimes incorrect conclusions. It is perfectly acceptable for you to defend your beliefs with your usual vigor, but try not to take the opinions of others as personal insults.
Venus is in 02 Degrees Gemini.
You are friendly, warm, open and tolerant toward others. You love variety in relationships, indeed you may even prefer to maintain more than one relationship at a time! Very witty and humorous, you have the ability to amuse and please others. This makes you quite popular. You love to play the field and thus find it difficult to settle down and make any deep emotional commitments. Your innate charm and vivacity makes you welcome most everywhere you go.
Mars is in 07 Degrees Leo.
You are a very proud person. Strong, bold, courageous and self-possessed, you love to be the one to initiate significant actions. When people expect a lot of you, you respond positively and will work hard in order to maintain their respect. But when your dignity or pride is threatened, you tend to become sarcastic, arrogant and domineering. Try not to take any challenge or resistance that you meet as a personal affront. You are very stubborn about your right to live your life according to your own principles.
Jupiter is in 02 Degrees Cancer.
You must be emotionally secure in order to grow and develop. You are happiest when your family and community support and nourish you and boost your morale. Whether your childhood experiences of love and emotional dependability were positive or negative will set the tone for your emotional growth and stability as an adult. When you feel at ease with yourself, you are able to offer assistance to those who need a helping hand.
Saturn is in 23 Degrees Leo.
Extremely self-reliant, you set very high standards of conduct and decorum for yourself, and you expect others with whom you associate to be that way, too. It is important that you had a strong father figure or role model early in life to mold your life course and direction. When you feel that those around you are unworthy or behaving badly, you withdraw, preferring solitude rather than associating with those who might besmirch your reputation.
Uranus is in 14 Degrees Scorpio.
You, and your peer group, demand to confront life at its deepest and most meaningful levels. Very compulsive and obsessive in your approach to everything, you will avoid anything that is casual or superficial, especially when it comes to relationships. You will seek out and explore new methods of healing as well as different ways to deal with deep-seated emotional problems.
Neptune is in 17 Degrees Sagittarius.
You, and your entire generation, are heavily involved in investigating and idealizing foreign and exotic intellectual systems and religious philosophies. The most extreme ideals will be pursued with gusto. You will be at the forefront of humanitarian attempts to improve the lot of those who are in need of assistance. You will be comfortable with the concept of the "global village."
Pluto is in 14 Degrees Libra.
For your entire generation, this is a time of radical changes in society's attitude toward marriage and interpersonal relationships. There is a general fear and awe at the power inherent in making emotional or contractual commitments -- they will not be entered into lightly.
N. Node is in 05 Degrees Libra.
You find it very difficult to be comfortable being alone -- you would much prefer to be in an environment where many people are working together toward common goals. Your charming and sincere approach to others assures your popularity -- you have the gift of being able to ease tensions just by your mere presence. You're the perfect "team player" willing to sacrifice your own importance so that the group goal can be accomplished. Be careful, however, not to become overly dependent on your interactions with others -- you have personal private needs that should not be neglected.

What a long strange trip it's been...
Man alive I'm wiped...
Friday I took off from work early... S. and I had a date out of town with one of the remainders of the Grateful Dead. Bob Weir and his band Ratdog were playing in Hampton Beach, NH. About a 45 minute drive south of here, but knowing spring/summer traffic getting down there before the rush was a priority.
We had very little prospects of getting into the venue, tickets had sold out for some reason on Tuesday. It sold out in a matter of two hours. I had checked the availability at noon on Tueday and by the time S. got home, they were gone... Who knew the "dog" was so popular... Well obviously we drove down for shits, hoping to possibly get into something...
We got down to the ghost beach town and headed to the scheduled meeting place. We had two options, go down to the pub and listen to the preshow band (some dudes out of boston) or go upstairs and grab some food. We side stepped the bar band and went upstairs. We met up with some friends of S. and joined them at their table... A thuroughly enjoyable experience I must say. We could hear the bar band wafting through from upstairs and were thankful that we made the right decision. Plus, I wasn't sure how many strangers I could handle meeting, seeing as I'm rather anti-social.
After eating we went down to the venue and the fun started. I mean really. There were hippies and wookies EVERYWHERE... I had been to a Phish show two years ago, but it was raining and on Long Island. What I saw at Coventry wasn't much of indication of any type of scene either... That was a festival... EVERYONE goes to festivals... No... This was some kind of special. I have never seen so many matted dreads in my life. I would have gone up to them and tried to separate the carpets, but god forbid my hand get stuck in there or something. JEEEEEEEEEEEEEBUS... There were your folks with patchwork shirts, dresses and so on... Lot's of guys in long flowy skirts. Puppies EVERYWHERE...
I walked around with S. in awe.
These people were on tour. The closest thing I've gotten to being on tour was going several consecutive punk shows all in the same city or that one time... in band camp...
No these folks were hard core, dirty ass muthas... One guy who looked like he hadn't showered in months was selling burritos... Not that appetizing if you think about it... Jewelry was being sold and then there were the whisperings of "nugs, candies, pure AMT you'll trip your face off." We're still trying to figure out what the AMT is. (acidic mother truckers? i just don't know)
The puppies were the worst though. Great dogs, beautiful dogs being pulled around the lot only to be forced into the car for four hours while the folks are in the venue. If we hadn't gotten so cold, I would have found something heavy and broken some windows. Some people just don't deserve pets.
Needless to say, I spent much of my time watching people and making snide comments about each one. I can't help that I'm an asshole. I have scars from mosh pits, my hair is straight and my hearing is slightly damaged from stading in front of the speakers at too many shows.
S. and I gave up our quest of scoring extra tickets when it became apparent that neither of us had much over face value for the tickets. We weren't paying $80 for $25 tickets. Though, if S. had wanted to, I would have paid for her's.
We made our way out of the wee lot (the lot scene was way smaller than LI's, but since it wasn't raining, I could get a better grasp of what was going on) and started on our quest for coffee. The locals were rude. That said, don't go to Hampton Beach if you don't have to. There's no reason under the sun to give that community your money. (I will say that the waitress at Le Bec Rouge was very pleasant).
Our friends gave us the key to their hotel and we crashed, watching cable. It was rather sad, but both of us were totally at ease watching animal planet 45 minutes south of home, in a strange hotel room. Our friends came back with more friends and we hung out in the room. An odd mix of dead heads reminicing about old shows and heady vibes. It was nice, unchaotic... These people had survived the lots years ago, they no longer had to shill beer to get to the next show. The best part was, they didn't care that I wasn't in the scene, had no idea what they were talking about. They included me anyhow.
We stayed until about 3am and then hit the road for back home. Got into the apartment at around 4am and S. checked the web to see what the setlist was and if anyone had commented on it.
We slept in and spent the weekend recovering and being lazy.
Didn't get into the show, but we sure had a great trip.
